Manufacturing Process
Wall’s sawmill has processed Irish softwoods and hardwoods from the early 20th century. In the scale of modern sawmilling, the operation is dwarfed by the supermills processing of Ireland’s softwoods. None-the-less this multi generation family business provides valuable service in local timber markets. The majority of our logs are sourced from sustainable forestry within a 120km radius. The mill is powered by a 1933 Crossley Stationary engine which generates all the electricity needed to power the mill. Logs are split into beams and are hand stacked and left to air dry naturally for 18 months. Following this the timber is then Kiln dried for a further week using the waste from the mill to generate the heat required to dry the timber. All beams are hand crafted and carefully thought out in our work shop to suite each individual order using our energy efficient processes.
