Post & Beam
For hundreds of years a heavy Oak frame was the preferred structure on which to build many houses from the humblest cottage to great royal halls.
In a house that has a post and beam structural frame, the walling takes no weight beyond its own. This is called “non-loadbearing” walling a great variety of materials can be used usually lightweight sheets, timber supports and insulation, foam core panels straw bales, mud or cob, sheeps wool.
Today due to global warming there is now great emphasis on energy saving ecological buildings and the use of greener building materials, never before has this ancient craft of building been more important .
